Massively multiplayer online role playing games have been at a stand still for the last few years. With the advent of World of Warcraft, most games have simply chosen to copy their business model instead of trying out new things. Bioware hopes to break this trend with their newest MMO. Star Wars The Old Republic. Today we are going to be going over the basic Star Wars The Old Republic Gameplay and how it differs from some of it’s competition.
The first thing you will notice that sets Star Wars The Old Republic gameplay apart is how fluid it is. Older MMO titles typically feel like a turn based battle. You click on an attack and then it executes. You wait, and then execute again. The Old Republic feels much more like an action-rpg. You feel like you are actually attacking and that where you stand is critical to your success. This makes even simple kills feel much more enjoyable as you hack and slash your way through the world.

Another big departure for Star Wars The Old Republic gameplay is it’s heavy focus on story. Instead of gather quests with little purpose, The Old Republic has tons and tons of voice acting. Even your own character has a voice with thousands of lines of dialogue. It allows you to get into the game more and gives a stronger purpose to your actions.
In terms of classes as I read Star Wars The Old Republic guide, The Old Republic follows the typical RPG fare. You have your tank class. You have a DPS class. You round it out with a healer type class and a smuggler/rogue class. All of these combinations allow for the classic gameplay of a tank taking all the damage with a healer supporting him. The Jedi is the main DPS class of the game and his responsibility is to inflict massive amounts of damage on the target character. The smuggler class is in charge of traps and other additions to the battle. The Star Wars The Old Republic gameplay will set it apart from the rest of the MMO world and make it a huge success when it launches. It combines old ideas with new graphics and a great storyline for an exciting combination.
